The Tasman: Crowd Cookware's Way of Making An Impact. Designed With Our Crowd. An Everyday Pan that Lasts for Generations

From Cars to Cast Iron: Our Recycled Dutch Oven & Grill

At Crowd Cookware, we’ve been working on chef-grade cookware with the goal of transforming the cookware industry. With our Tasman we’ll be taking this transformation to a new level of innovation. By producing a recycled Dutch Oven & Grill without digging one single piece of iron.

The Dutch Oven & the Grill can both be used on all heat sources including gas, induction, ceramic and electric. It can even be put in the oven or on the barbeque. The Tasman is dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended to last for generations. It is easy to clean, most messes just need a gentle soak and scrub for a smooth finish.

The Tasman is made from the highest quality recycled cast iron, with a tough and functional design. The recycled cast iron has lost nothing of its quality. Our Dutch oven & grill is a cast iron workhorse: incredibly strong, an unbelievable allrounder and ready to be used every day. It can sauté, sear, boil, fry, grill, bake, and braise. Carefully designed, tested and approved by our Crowd.

And that’s not even the best part.. our Tasman comes disguised as a Dutch oven, but is actually two pans in one. And all for a fair price. We choose to work with recycled materials, so together we eliminate piles and piles of scrap metal. That’s why the Tasman is made from old polluting cars, among other things. This is how we can make our Dutch Oven & Grill without mining one single iron ore. The Tasman is incredibly strong and will last for generations. It comes packaged in a biodegradable cardboard box, that is also used as a shipping box so we save 50% on packaging materials. This is our way of making an impact.

These times, ‘green’ claims are often easily made. We are determined on saying what we do and doing what we say. Therefore, we go above and beyond to make sure The Tasman really is recycled in the best way possible.Crowd Cookware will therefore be working with SCS Global Services to track every phase of the recycling process. SCS is a pioneer and leader in the field of sustainability standards and third-party certification.

We are quite proud that we will track and review our entire materials chain, in order to fully comply with the rather ambitious UL2809 certification. The UL2809 Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content evaluates, amongst other things, the amount of recycled content in products. In just over 3 years, Crowd Cookware evolved into a worldwide community of kitchen enthusiasts creating their own chef-grade cookware for a fair price.

Creating cookware with our crowd is all about translating feedback into new products or actual changes to the final designs. We believe this is the way to create great cookware together. You might remember our Buccaneer skillet, where our backer Sean came up with the name.. Or the knives in our knife set: which were named after our backers. This time we asked our crowd to suggest a name for our new recycled cast iron Dutch Oven & Grill.

A recurring request from our crowd was to finally make a Crowd Cookware Dutch Oven. This cast iron pan is called a ‘Dutch Oven’ all over the world. Because we are also from the Netherlands, it really feels like our heritage . The Dutch invented the technique of casting iron in sand molds to make big pots and pans. These so-called Dutch ovens were used on open fires and stoves. They’re built for a lifetime of toughness. Just like our Tasman.

This eco-chic pan is not only aesthetically pleasing, it has 6-in-1 cookware functionality and non-stick sorcery. This kitchen staple can fry, sauté, steam, grill, and boil. The only thing it doesn’t do is cook the food for us.As a nod to our entire Crowd Cookware collection (and crowd ;-), we have integrated our trademark honeycomb into the handle on our traditional lid and the handles on our Tasman.

that the studs at the bottom of such a traditional lid, are specifically made to ensure that the drops of condensation during cooking, 'leak' evenly across the pan Pots scoot over, the Tasman is now a home for juicy chicken sauteés, crispy eggs, simple stir fries, and more flavorful mealtime munchies. Whether you're a meat lover, a fulltime vegetarian or just love all food, you can cook it all in Tasman.
